Entry #6

Things that I need to improve on:
I think the area that I need to improve on is the integration of theorist and theories into my essays. I need to better support my ideas and statements through theorist and their theories. This is essential so that my essay sounds more professional and more solide.

Three things I improved on:
1) Public speaking
2) Creating idea for integrating technology
3) class attendance and participation heheheheh :D

Three things I did well on:
1.) The final lesson plan
2.)My initial statement on technology
3.) Group assignment and in class work.

Entry #5

Three things that I have learned:

1.)Different approaches or theories on the dilieverance of education.
2.)I have learned how to feel comfortable presenting a project before my peers.
3.)I have learned about different activities that I can use with technology. For instance, I can use a spreadsheet software and have my students figure out the ages of people who have been burried in a cemetary.

Things I like and Dislike

Things that could be changed
1.) The Hip Bone Game. I think it's a great idea to have students build off each other; but, I don't like how it depends so much on group work.
2.) The textbook. I know this is something that cannot be changed, but its contents are very dry, thus, it is difficult to remained focus when reading it.
3.) There are too many class presentations, that I feel deal with the same concepts repeatedly.

Things that I enjoy.
1.) I like doing some of the in class presentations. I think it is very beneficial to have us become more comfortable presenting ideas to our peers. It will also benefit us in our own classroom.
2.) I like the final project-the lesson plan integrating technology. I think is give us a great opportunity to really look through the QEP and formulate an appropriate lesson plan. I have also not had a lot of exprience doing lesson plans so this great practice.
3.) I like the atmosphere of the class. I find it laid back and very comfortable and makes me want to learn about the course material.

What I've learned

In the last few weeks of this course, Integrating Technology into the Classroom, I’ve learned a lot of about lesson plans. Until the last few weeks I have had little practice actually creating lesson plans. It gave me a great opportunity to look through the QEP and really try to understand what we are trying to teach our students.
Furthermore, the group lesson plan activity gave me a great opportunity to actually apply what we have learnt in class. It was a nice way to try to incorporate different technologies into the classroom. I thought it would be a much more difficult task then it was. When thinking about integrating technology I thought it would have to be some great invention or some great technology. However, this exercise allowed me to understand that technology is technology regardless of its size or shape.
Finally, the in class presentations also allowed me to practice my presentation skills. I am a very shy person, and by presenting in front of my peers it is slowly making me feel a little more comfortable in front of a room full of people.

What I've Learned

Blog #2 What I've learned.

What I have learned in the beginning of this semester is the different theories and theorists view on education. B.F Skinner, and John Dewey were theorists that really stuck in my mind the last few classes. I learned of B.F Skinner and his theory of behaviorism, which carries the idea that behavior is controlled by the consequence of action then by the events, which precede it. There are three situations that shape behavior: positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and punishment. Although the explanation of negative reinforcement was discussed in class, I still find my self a little confused when trying to apply/observe it in my practicum (grade 6 at Lennoxville Elementary School).
John Dewey, I learned, is the ‘grandfather’ of constructivism. An approach I would like to apply in my future classroom. He believe that the curriculum should be built upon the student’s own interest, and that all subjects should be practical to every day live. This means that children should be able to apply what they learn in class to their daily lives. Dewey was very adamant that subject matter should not be kept separate, therefore, all subject should coincide. I thought this was a very valid point because often we learn ‘just math’ and ‘just English’ and are very often not taught that the two can deal with one another. For instance in math we use written language to explain a solved problem, therefore we must have some English knowledge of grammar rules.
Overall, I’ve really learned a lot about different theories. I became really interested in learning the theorists when were told to summarize the theorists and present it to the class. Hearing my peer discuss what they understood from the chapter really help me remember what was discussed in class.

Entry #1: My Goals

Prof. Bures,

My goals for this course is to have an appreciation for the different technologies that are found in today's society and use them in a postitive way in my future classroom. I would like to become familiar with different theories, which address the idea of integrating technology into the classroom. I would also like to learn effective methods of integration. Furthermore, I look forward to my own experience with using technology in this course (for example, creating lesson plans, online activities, etc..). I believe this course will help to develop my views on the use and mis use of technology in today's society and most importantly in today's classrooms.

Thank You
Jennifer
